Nascimento nos anos 50 e a Santos/Rio – A ABVO surgiu da necessidade de melhor organizar a Regata Santos-Rio, que teve seu início em 1951. Nesta edição, a Santos-Rio teve como Fita-Azul o veleiro “Vendaval” do ICRJ sob comando de Fernando Pimentel Duarte. No tempo corrigido, a vitória coube ao “Ondina” do comandante Joaquim Belém. Na edição de 1955 já organizada pela ABVO, a Santos-Rio foi vencida no tempo real e corrigido pelo “Mistral” do comandante Leon Joullié.
Since its creation in 1951, ABVO has been the only entity promoting Ocean Sailing in Brazil and since then recognized by the National Sports Confederation, through the then Brazilian Sailing and Motor Confederation, a confederation that ABVO helped to build and consolidate . In the wake of the extinct CBVM, the sailing command in our country went through difficult times and despite this, always standing out on the world stage, winning several titles in the various Olympic and non-Olympic classes.
